Wedding fairs past, and present!

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a little (but excitable!) article about meeting the lovely Claire from Doubleyou Weddings, and how we did a lovely collaboration for the Discover Vintage’sVIntage Wedding Fair” in Leamington Spa. Well, I thought it was about time that I showed you what Claire got up to with our lovely bits and pieces of china! Sadly I couldn’t make it to the fair as I fell a little poorly that weekend, but by all accounts the show was a raving success!!

Claire and I had talked a lot over the weeks about what sort of look we wanted the table to have, so in turn what sort of china we could use. In the end we decided to stick with a traditional “Spring” theme, but to try and do something a little less “standard” with it. Our initial thoughts were to obviously use something attention grabbing, whilst still being seasonal and applicable to weddings, so our thoughts turned to taking inspiration from spring flowers. However we didn’t want to do it in a traditional pastel sense, but in a slightly brighter way… think yellows, purples, reds; think crocuses, daffs, snowdrops, azaleas or pink hollyhock; classic, simple, British spring flowers, using complementary colours to create something visually interesting…

We also wanted to do something a little bit different, for those creative brides out there, to show you that you don’t have to think inside the box. We wanted to try and use things not for their intended purposes… and so ended up planting flowers in the teacups!

When Claire showed me the photos I literally squealed a bit! I am so PRO using china for ideas other than just drinking out of (think teapots as vases, cups & saucers for cocktails), and I think this is just the sweetest idea! Imagine a cluster of these, with different pastel colours in the same style of teacup for your centrepieces….love! (NB I probably wouldn’t advocate raiding your granny’s dresser for china as you never know what heirlooms you might be covering in mud!)

I was so pleased to have met Claire and to be working together, so guess what… we’re doing another one! I’ve lent Claire some more lovely pieces of china, and this time she’ll be at The Midlands Vintage Chic Wedding Fair

The fair is this Sunday 22nd April, and will be on show at The Centennial Centre, Birmingham, from 11.30 until 4pm. The lovely ladies from Midlands Vintage Chic Wedding Fair describe their shows as “vintage with a modern twist… with a pinch of glamour and a large dose of style”. They are sure to put on a beautiful day,and what better way to escape those rainy day blues than to go and see lots of beautiful things and get amazing inspiration and ideas for your wedding! It is only £5 entry to get in, and hopefully there’s a wide variety of vendors on show. But let’s face it, you’re going to be looking at Halliday’s and Doubleyou weddings, right?! ; )

If you’re not busy then do head over, it will be lovely to see some familiar faces, and we always love meeting new ones too! Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for Claire’s lovely banner, and who knows, we might even have some sweet treats waiting for you! 😀
